That did change something, now instead of saying it is locked by this specific user, it is saying that it is locked by 'another user'. One of the things I did try from the article above was to delete the temporary lock file and retry. I know he doesn't have access to the network for two reasons, he didn't take his laptop with him, and there are no active VPN connections with his credentials.
